Have you thought about what music you would like played at your funeral?

Lots of people are not comfortable thinking about their own funeral and I can understand that, but having the courage to mention to a loved one what your wishes would be (or writing them down if you prefer) is a very important conversation to have.

It also means that when you are no longer here, those that are left behind don’t have to make decisions about what they think you might have wanted!?

In a celebrant led funeral ceremony you can have pretty much any music you want so don’t think it has to be sad or slow unless you like that kind of music.

When my beloved dad died in 2009, he didn’t want to talk about his funeral wishes at all, but he did manage to tell me what music he wanted. He chose a song to be played from him for my mum and he chose the piece of music he wanted to be played at the end of the service – it was a Wurzels song!

It was what dad wanted.

I love music – it makes me happy, emotional and it brings backs memories. So here are the three music choices I’d like at my funeral:

  • Fix You by Coldplay (love this song & I’d like it played in full!)
  • All I Want Is You by U2 (this is mine & John’s song)
  • Mr Brightside by The Killers (my favourite band)

I want people to leave my funeral feeling uplifted and Mr Brightside will definitely do that!

So… what music would you like played at your funeral? Have the conversation.
